China’s Wang Yi and Syria’s FM Forge Stronger Ties in Beijing Talks

On Monday, Nov 17, 2025, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Asaad Hassan al-Shibani in Beijing, marking a milestone in China-Syria diplomacy.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, reaffirmed China’s long-standing friendly policy toward the Syrian people and respect for Syria’s independent choices.

Both sides stressed mutual respect for core interests and non-interference, pledging to restore bilateral relations to the right track. China welcomed Syria’s firm adherence to the one-China principle, urging support against 'Taiwan independence' and a unified China.

Noting the United Nations Security Council’s designation of the East Turkistan Islamic Movement as a terrorist group, Wang praised Syria’s promise to prevent its territory from being used against China’s interests and called for concrete measures to enforce this commitment.

The ministers also explored deeper cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. China expressed support for Syria’s early peace efforts under a Syrian-led, Syrian-owned framework, and invited Damascus to engage in inclusive political dialogue, reconstruction planning, and reintegration into multilateral forums such as the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum.

Wang emphasized China’s readiness to collaborate with the international community to bolster security and stability in Syria.

For his part, al-Shibani reiterated Syria’s firm support for the one-China principle and opposition to any threats against China’s sovereignty. He welcomed China’s security concerns, condemned terrorism, and committed to preventing hostile activities on Syrian soil.

Al-Shibani also praised China’s development initiatives, expressed eagerness to learn from China’s experience, and confirmed Syria’s active participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and multilateral cooperation.

The two ministers concluded the meeting by issuing a joint statement outlining their shared vision for stronger political, economic, and security ties.
