China Urges U.S. to Handle Taiwan Issue with Prudence

In a statement on Saturday, November 15, 2025, Beijing’s State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Chen Binhua urged the United States to exercise “utmost prudence” on the Taiwan question. His remarks came in response to the U.S. announcement of a $330 million arms sale to the Taiwan region.

Chen emphasized that China firmly opposes U.S. arms sales to the Taiwan region, calling its stance “consistent and clear.” He argued that the deal undermines national sovereignty, threatens security interests, and sends a “gravely wrong” signal to Taiwan secession forces.

Urging Washington to honor the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, Chen stressed that continued support for separatist activities risks escalating tensions. “Taiwan secession” and peace in the Taiwan Strait are incompatible, he warned, accusing Taiwan authorities of seeking foreign favor, pursuing militarization, and squandering taxpayers’ funds since Lai Ching-te took office.

Describing the island as a potential “powder keg,” Chen cautioned that relying on external forces or arms buildup is a dead end for those seeking secession. He concluded that China will take all necessary measures to safeguard national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

Analysts say this exchange highlights growing friction in U.S.-China relations over Taiwan, with implications for regional stability and global security. Young global citizens and business leaders alike will be watching how diplomatic channels manage this delicate balance in the months ahead.
