UNESCO Official Praises CGTN’s Land of Diversity 2 for Dynamic Conservation

Recently, Lidia Brito, UNESCO assistant director-general for natural sciences, praised CGTN's new documentary Land of Diversity 2 for its vivid storytelling and rigorous science on biodiversity protection in the Chinese mainland.

In an exclusive preview of the trailer, Brito highlighted the film's beautiful imagery and its deep dive into how conservation and development can coexist in a constantly shifting landscape. "It's very nice," she said, noting that the core challenge is to make conservation efforts adaptive and sustainable.

Land of Diversity 2 builds on the original series by exploring:

  • Full protection of endangered and iconic species
  • Buffer zones that balance human activity with wildlife monitoring
  • Green and zero-carbon technologies powering local economies
  • Collaborative governance involving local authorities, scientists, and businesses

Brito emphasized that true sustainability comes when local communities see themselves as part of the biosphere, not separate from it. "All parties play a role in maintaining a dynamic equilibrium between nature and society," she told CGTN.

With conservation hotspots under increasing pressure, Land of Diversity 2 offers a fresh perspective on how policy, science, and technology can unite global changemakers to protect our planet's most valuable ecosystems.
