Earlier this week in Conakry, Chinese vice premier Liu Guozhong affirmed Beijing’s commitment to deepen its long-standing friendship with Guinea. On a visit from November 10 to 12, Liu attended the inauguration of the Simandou iron ore mine project as President Xi Jinping’s special representative.
During talks with Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya, Liu highlighted Guinea’s rapid economic and social progress, congratulating officials on the efficient completion of the Simandou project. He described the mine as a fruit of nearly 70 years of cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Guinea, and a cornerstone of Guinea’s Simandou 2040 strategic plan.
Recalling last year’s Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Beijing Summit meeting between General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping and Doumbouya, Liu said China will fully implement FOCAC outcomes and join hands with Guinea to advance modernization. Both sides pledged mutual support across trade, infrastructure, and development initiatives.
President Doumbouya extended his warm greetings to Xi and emphasized Guinea’s strategic view of its ties with the Chinese mainland. He welcomed more Chinese enterprises to invest in Guinea and promised to create favorable conditions for expanded cooperation across multiple fields, from mining and transport to healthcare.
The visit also featured the signing and unveiling ceremony of the China-Africa Joint Medical Center in Conakry, marking a new chapter in health collaboration. As both nations look ahead, this deepening partnership could open fresh opportunities for entrepreneurs, tech innovators, and communities on both continents.
