Fujian clinches first Hong Kong SAR gold in beach volleyball

In an electrifying evening at Victoria Park, Fujian's Xue Chen and Zeng Jinjin claimed the first Hong Kong SAR-based gold at China's 15th National Games, edging Nanjing's Yan Xu and Zhou Mingli 2-1 in the women's beach volleyball final.

The match opened with Fujian dominating the first set 21-15, showcasing powerful serves and pinpoint spikes. Nanjing fought back in the second, adjusting their defense to win 21-13, setting the stage for a high-stakes decider.

The final set was a roller-coaster of fierce rallies and crucial saves. With the crowd roaring, Xue and Zeng held their nerve, closing out the contest 15-9 to secure the gold in front of a packed local audience.

Zeng said, 'This is my third National Games and Xue's sixth. From the moment we stepped onto the court, our goal was to give it our all.' The pair have trained together for a year, overcoming injuries to peak at this top domestic event.

This victory marked the first gold out of eight National Games events taking place in Hong Kong SAR this week.

Earlier, Xinjiang's Wang Jingzhe and Xia Xinyi swept past Jiangsu's Yuan Lvwen and Zhu Lingdi in straight sets to take bronze, completing a thrilling beach volleyball showcase in the heart of Hong Kong SAR.
