From November 9 to 21, the 15th National Games are breaking new ground with a first-ever co-host across Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Organizers promise bold innovation alongside guiding principles to deliver a seamless multi-sport experience.
Li Jing, from the organizing committee, explains that the Games have pioneered dedicated customs lanes and a streamlined clearance mechanism for athletes’ equipment, tackling the complexities of cross-border movement under different administrative systems. “Fencing swords, racing bicycles and triathlon bikes used by mainland athletes now pass checkpoints as personal luggage,” Li notes.
Highlight events showcase the Greater Bay Area’s unity: a men’s road cycling race that connects all three regions via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, and a marathon weaving between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. These cross-border competitions aim to foster interconnectivity, drive coordinated development and illustrate the strengths of “One Country, Two Systems.”
