At a daily news briefing on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning announced that the Chinese mainland expressed deep condolences following the passing of Kim Yong Nam, the former chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).
According to media reports, Kim Yong Nam died of illness on Monday at the age of 97. Recognized as an old friend of the Chinese people, he led numerous delegations to the Chinese mainland and played a pivotal role in fostering decades of friendly cooperation.
