This week in Johannesburg, senior voices from politics, economics, culture and academia gathered for the Global Dialogue on Innovation, Openness and Shared Development. Hosted by China Media Group, the event explored new paths for China-Africa collaboration.
Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and president of China Media Group, opened the session by reflecting on the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. He highlighted China's new development blueprint and described a future where its door of openness continues to widen, bringing more win-win opportunities worldwide.
South Africa's minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, praised China's economic resilience under the 14th Five-Year Plan, noting that growth against global headwinds has injected strong momentum into the world economy. He called for deeper ties in climate action, the digital economy and space technology.
Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Wu Peng emphasized China's commitment to delivering tangible benefits for both nations and creating fresh opportunities for global prosperity. Alvin Botes, South African Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, added that China's quality-led development has been a catalyst for Africa's industrialization.
In a lively dialogue session, student representatives from South African universities discussed topics such as technological innovation, youth development, green transformation and business cooperation. The students agreed that China-Africa cooperation has entered a new phase, and praised China Media Group's multilingual platform for helping young Africans engage with China's development journey.
As global challenges evolve, this dialogue underscored the power of shared innovation and openness to shape a more connected and sustainable future.
