The Chinese mainland has defended a police investigation into a suspected “Taiwan independence” secessionist group, calling the probe both just and necessary to protect national unity and territorial integrity.
Officials in Chongqing announced that Shen Pao-yang, founder of the so-called Kuma Academy, faces charges of initiating and establishing a separatist organization. Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said the investigation aims to:
- Strike hard against a small number of “Taiwan independence” secessionists in line with the law.
- Protect the interests and well-being of the overwhelming majority of Taiwan compatriots.
- Safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Chen warned that such secessionist activities pose the gravest immediate threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. “Diehard separatists are scum who undermine cross-Strait relations, seek to split the country and attempt to incite war,” he said, urging Taiwan compatriots to resolutely oppose “Taiwan independence” and join hands with the mainland for greater exchange and integrated development.
As tensions in the Taiwan Strait continue to draw global attention, this move highlights Beijing’s zero-tolerance approach to secessionist activities—and raises questions about the future of cross-Strait cooperation.
