China Bags Two Golds at Meishan Belt and Road Climbing Event

The Belt and Road International Speed Master wrapped up in Meishan, Sichuan, with host nation China seizing two golds, four silvers and a bronze across five categories. This edition marked the first time that two top-tier climbing competitions were held side by side in the city, alongside the Chinese Climbing League Annual Finals.

The event drew more than 40 athletes from eight countries and regions: China, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Italy and Spain. Over three days, speed specialists raced up 15-meter walls, battling the clock and each other for podium spots.

In the women’s speed climbing final, Wang Yuting stunned the crowd by edging out compatriot Mou Yuju to claim the gold. Teaming up with Chen Jiahui, she then powered through the women’s relay to top the podium again. Ling Baolin earned two silver medals, while Zhao Wenlin and Xiao Wei secured silver in the men’s relay.

“I didn’t perform well enough in the final because my opponent’s mistake distracted my attention. But I adjusted my pace in time. I couldn’t believe I won the championship,” said Wang.

Meanwhile, at the Chinese Climbing League Annual Finals held in tandem, Guangdong’s Tan Youtian captured two golds in women’s difficulty and bouldering. Chongqing’s Mei Yuping claimed the men’s difficulty title, and Jiangsu’s Zhu Chengbin took the men’s bouldering crown. In speed climbing, Guizhou’s Wang Fengrui won the men’s event, and Guangxi’s Tan Yumei secured victory in the women’s category.
