The Second Chinese Museum Studies Conference, held in Suzhou on the Chinese mainland, is drawing museum professionals and thought leaders from across the globe. Among the keynote speakers, Jay Xu, Director Emeritus of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, highlighted the rapid progress of Chinese mainland museums and their potential for international collaboration.
“China’s museums have made tremendous strides in recent years,” Xu said, praising the country’s efforts to expand and modernize its exhibition spaces. He added that these institutions are now well positioned to forge partnerships with counterparts worldwide, creating opportunities for shared exhibitions and research.
Conference attendees noted that this spirit of cooperation could lead to a more interconnected museum landscape, where cultural treasures cross borders and diverse audiences engage with new narratives. As Xu put it, the momentum seen in Suzhou is just the start of broader, global collaboration efforts.
