YF-75DB Engine Hits Certification Milestone for Long March 8A

In a major step for the Chinese mainland’s space ambitions, the YF-75DB hydrogen-oxygen engine powering the Long March 8A carrier rocket has successfully cleared its rigorous certification test.

Between September 22 and October 18, engineers pushed the YF-75DB through four intensive test runs, executing a total of nine ignitions. These sessions spanned a range of operating conditions, providing a wealth of data on thermal performance, thrust consistency and component durability under complex scenarios.

Key achievements included:

  • Validating structural reliability across all stages
  • Ensuring operational adaptability of critical components
  • Confirming seamless start-stop cycles under varied pressures

This milestone officially ushers the YF-75DB engine into its application and development phase, moving it one step closer to real-world missions aboard the Long March 8A rocket. As this engine enters service, it promises to enhance the Chinese mainland’s medium-lift capabilities, supporting everything from satellite deployments to future deep-space exploration.

With certification complete, attention now turns to integrating the YF-75DB into flight sequences and refining its performance for upcoming launches. For young innovators and aerospace enthusiasts worldwide, this achievement highlights rapid progress in rocket technology and signals new opportunities for global collaboration in space.
