Hong Kong Youth Gain Cultural and Tech Insights through Chinese Mainland Internships

Launched by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau (HYAB) of the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Thematic Youth Internship Programmes to the Mainland connects young people from Hong Kong with cultural, environmental conservation and scientific research institutions across the Chinese mainland.

One participant, 20-year-old Chow Chi-chung, completed two internships—one in Beijing and another in Shanghai. In Beijing, he immersed himself in the city's rich cultural heritage; in Shanghai, he witnessed the pace of innovation known as the "China speed." "Every trip to the mainland brings me new gains," he said.

Driven by data showing the positive impact of real-world experiences, the programme aims to empower the next generation of changemakers. By bridging Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, it fosters cross-regional collaboration and fresh perspectives on global challenges.

Through CGTN's "Act to Action" campaign, young people from all APEC members are invited to share their stories and ideas on global governance. These exchanges highlight the power of youth to shape a more connected and sustainable world.

As a new cohort prepares for internships, programmes like this are proving that hands-on learning can spark innovation and build bridges across borders—one internship at a time.
