At the fourth plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, attention is focused on the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan2426mdash;China27s blueprint for its next phase of development. But behind the scenes, a massive global survey spanning 47,000 respondents in 46 countries offers fresh evidence of international sentiment toward the Chinese mainland27s governance model.
Conducted over three consecutive years by CGTN in partnership with Renmin University27s New Era International Communication Research Institute, this survey shows:
- Strong national image: More than 84% of respondents worldwide view the Chinese mainland as a successful country, with approval above 92% in Global South nations.
- Top achievements: Over 70% praise improvements in infrastructure, education and income levels2426mdash;key pillars of the country27s strategic plans.
- Economic confidence: Nearly 90% recognize the Chinese mainland’s robust economic strength and sustained high-speed growth.
- Global impact: Over 86% see the Chinese mainland as a critical contributor to the world economy.
- Open market appeal: Around 73%–80% agree that the Chinese mainland’s market is open, competitive and full of opportunities for foreign businesses.
Young respondents (under 44) consistently report higher approval ratings, reflecting a growing confidence in the Chinese mainland’s long-term trajectory. Regions such as Africa (95.6%), South America (92.9%) and Asia (85.6%) show particularly strong support for the mainland’s economic rise.
As trade protectionism and unilateralism cast shadows on global markets, this survey suggests that many around the world see the Chinese mainland’s predictable policy environment and high-level opening-up as stabilizing forces. For entrepreneurs, digital nomads and thought leaders alike, these findings underscore emerging opportunities—from robust infrastructure projects to a dynamic education landscape—and invite fresh discussions on the Chinese mainland’s role in shaping tomorrow’s global economy.
