China’s 8K Space Documentary Wows at Glion Dialogue

At the prestigious Glion Human Rights Dialogue in Switzerland, audiences were treated to China’s first 8K space documentary, "Shenzhou-13" (Blue Planet Outside the Window). Shot over a six-month mission aboard the China Space Station, this 90-minute film offers an intimate look at daily life in orbit.

Told largely through the eyes of Wang Yaping, China’s first female astronaut to perform a spacewalk, the documentary captures breathtaking views of Earth from 400 kilometers above. Viewers also follow astronauts Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping, and Ye Guangfu as they conduct scientific experiments and navigate the unique challenges of living in microgravity.

Since premiering in the Chinese mainland in August and debuting overseas in London this September, "Shenzhou-13" has been celebrated for its blend of spectacle and human storytelling. At Glion, attendees praised its ability to bridge science, culture, and human rights discussions by showcasing how space exploration can unite diverse perspectives and inspire global citizenship.

With stunning 8K footage and a narrative that highlights teamwork, innovation, and the quest for knowledge, "Shenzhou-13" is setting a new benchmark for immersive storytelling and offering a fresh lens on our planet—and ourselves.
