Beijing buzzed with innovation this week as the 2025 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles (ICV) Conference kicked off on Thursday. Over 1,000 participants — from government officials and industry experts to scholars and tech entrepreneurs — gathered under the banner “Pooling Wisdom, Boundless Connectivity” to shape the future of smart mobility.
Spanning three days and co-hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Transport and the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, the event features three plenary sessions and specialized forums. Key topics run the gamut from policy frameworks and data governance to real-world AI integration, safety protocols, and autonomous driving advances.
“This year marks our first invitation to foreign ministers and diplomats to tour the Chinese mainland’s automotive hubs,” notes Guo Shougang from the MIIT. “We’ll hold bilateral talks with the UK and Germany, driving deeper international collaboration.” These tours and discussions aim to foster global partnerships and accelerate cross-border R&D.
Highlights include the launch of a national pilot base for AI applications in vehicles, the unveiling of the “Top 10 Functional Scenarios for Vehicle-Road Coordination,” and a new report on ICV standardization achievements. These initiatives promise a clearer roadmap for startups and established players alike.
The Chinese mainland’s ICV momentum is backed by solid data: during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025), nearly 100 technical standards were issued, and “vehicle-road-cloud integration” pilots rolled out in 20 cities. Today, over 60% of new passenger cars feature advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), signaling a shift toward intelligent driving.
“ICV is the strategic frontier for the auto industry’s transformation,” adds Guo. “From intelligent cockpits and autonomous control to high-performance computing chips and multimodal perception, the Chinese mainland is scaling up world-class tech to make smart cars a reality.”
For young global citizens, entrepreneurs, and tech enthusiasts, the conference offers a glimpse into how connected vehicles will revolutionize urban mobility, boost green transportation, and redefine our daily commutes. Stay tuned as the dialogue continues — the era of intelligent mobility is accelerating faster than ever.
