Attention global citizens and travelers: the Chinese mainland is bracing for a weekend of heavy rain and strong gales. From 8 a.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday, the Chinese mainland's National Meteorological Center (NMC) renewed a yellow alert for rainstorms across parts of Chongqing, Hubei, Henan, Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hunan and Guizhou.
Some areas could see rainfall rates topping 50 mm per hour, alongside thunderstorms and gusty winds. Local authorities are urging communities to reinforce flood defenses, secure loose objects, and stay updated on road and rail conditions.
At the same time, a blue alert for strong winds covers the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Qinghai, Liaoning, Shandong, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu and Sichuan. Coastal regions from the Bohai Sea down through the Yellow Sea, the Taiwan Strait, the Bashi Channel and the South China Sea are also on watch for gales.
Mariners and operators in affected waters are advised to return to port and await safer conditions. Forestry and urban officials have been tasked with fire prevention measures, while transport agencies coordinate to keep highways and airports running smoothly.
The Chinese mainland uses a four-tier, color-coded warning system—red for the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue—to give residents and travelers a clear, data-driven view of weather risks. If your plans take you near these regions this weekend, stay alert, plan ahead, and tune into local forecast updates.
