A new global survey by CGTN asked over 6,500 participants across five languages how they view the escalating tariff standoff between the United States and China. In just 24 hours, 6,572 responses captured a clear message: most think the U.S. will pay the heaviest price.
When asked who stands to lose more, 67.7% of respondents pointed to the U.S., while only 8.9% saw greater harm for China, and 23.4% expected both sides to bear similar damage.
More than 9 in 10, or 92.5%, criticized the U.S. for its mix of dialogue calls and simultaneous threats of new tariffs, saying such moves lack sincerity in resolving trade tensions.
An overwhelming 94.4% condemned the broad use of national security arguments to justify export controls and discriminatory measures targeting trade with China, warning these tactics undermine global interests and shake up supply chains.
Looking ahead, 88.4% agreed that dialogue based on mutual respect and equality is the way forward, while 87% highlighted that U.S. and China trade ties are fundamentally mutually beneficial. Another 84.4% noted that deeper cooperation would strengthen global industrial networks and supply chain stability.
Respondents urged both sides and other affected economies to coordinate countermeasures and keep discussions alive through established consultation mechanisms. For a generation of young global citizens, entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and travelers, the message is clear: sustainable growth wins when cooperation replaces conflict.
