On October 13, 2025, at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted the crucial role women play in advancing human civilization. Yet, real transformation often happens far from the spotlight—like in the remote mountains of Huaping County.
At Huaping Senior High School for Girls, Principal Zhang Guimei turned a bold vision into reality, creating a free boarding school that brings education to mountain girls who once had few options beyond early marriage or farm work.
Among the first graduates is Zhou Yunli. Nurtured by Zhang’s dedication, Zhou returned to her alma mater as a teacher, determined to shine the same guiding light for the next generation. “I want every girl here to believe in herself,” she says.
