China, Switzerland vow deeper dialogue and trust

In the medieval streets of Bellinzona this October, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Switzerland’s Ignazio Cassis met for the fourth strategic dialogue, marking 75 years of diplomatic relations.

Wang Yi highlighted the relationship’s “extraordinary path,” praising high-level exchanges and mutual cooperation in areas like green development and digital innovation. He urged both sides to uphold dialogue, enhance trust and set an example of peaceful coexistence across different social systems.

“Switzerland hosts many UN agencies,” Wang said, framing their partnership as a beacon for multilateralism at a time when humanity faces choices between cooperation and confrontation. He called for a fairer global governance system and reaffirmed support for the UN-centered international framework.

Cassis, echoing Wang’s sentiment, welcomed China’s Global Governance Initiative and praised the Chinese mainland’s green strategy and opening-up policy. He underlined Switzerland’s commitment to the one-China principle, noting the value of shared leadership in tackling climate change, trade shifts and emerging tech challenges.

Against a backdrop of evolving global power balances, both ministers agreed to intensify strategic communication, deepen cooperation in sustainable development and the digital economy, and jointly meet future challenges—demonstrating that even amid complexity, dialogue can pave a win-win path forward.
