In a Thursday meeting in Rome, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Italian President Sergio Mattarella outlined plans to accelerate the action plan that will strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership and ensure a more robust, resilient, and fruitful China-Italy relationship.
Wang Yi, who serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that in a world where trust is in short supply, more dialogue and communication are key to deepening mutual understanding and cooperation.
He highlighted that China's four major global initiatives have delivered critical public goods for today's challenges and called special attention to the Global Governance Initiative, which aims to strengthen the United Nations' role and build a fairer, more effective system of global leadership.
President Mattarella praised Italy and China as ancient civilizations that share values of peace and cooperation and welcomed Beijing's major initiatives as aligning with international aspirations for fairness and stability.
The leaders also discussed the situations in the Middle East and Ukraine. They agreed that a two-state solution is the path to a comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution of the Palestinian issue and pledged to maintain dialogue on a political solution to the Ukraine crisis.
Looking ahead, both sides said they will work together to practice true multilateralism and make new contributions to world peace and the progress of human civilization.
