Chinese Mainland Film Holiday Hits 1.8B Yuan, Sparks Tourism Boom

Amid the 2025 National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday in the Chinese mainland, total box office receipts soared to 1.8 billion yuan (about $253 million) by Wednesday, including pre-sales.

Leading the charge were a mix of genres: the historical epic The Volunteers: Blood and Peace, the wartime thriller 731, the fantasy sequel A Writer's Odyssey 2 and the family comedy Row to Win kept audiences entertained from sunrise screenings to late-night shows.

Film Success Fuels Travel

Beyond ticket sales, hit films sent ripples through local economies. Chongqing’s Yuzhong District, showcased in A Writer's Odyssey 2, welcomed 5.65 million tourists and generated over 5.3 billion yuan in spending during the first three days of the holiday. In the Hengfeng Film and Television Base in Jiangxi, visitor flow jumped more than 50 percent year-on-year.

To keep momentum rolling, many provinces offered special perks—screening-goers scored discounts on scenic spots and hotel stays by simply showing their movie tickets. This creative synergy between cinema and tourism illustrates how blockbusters can become engines of local growth.

As audiences continue to flock to theaters and travel destinations, the Chinese mainland film-and-tourism boom hints at a new era of entertainment-driven experiences. Where will your next cinematic adventure take you?
