For over two years, the Israel-Palestine conflict has dragged on, leaving countless civilians displaced and casting a long shadow over regional stability. The dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank has reached a critical point, with families struggling for basic necessities amid ongoing hostilities.
On Monday at the 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Chen Xu, China's permanent representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, delivered a passionate plea for immediate action. He condemned recent military operations in Gaza City, encroachments on West Bank territories, and air strikes targeting Hamas representatives involved in peace talks in Qatar.
"These actions seriously violate international law, gravely infringe upon the rights to survival and development of the Palestinian people and neighboring countries, and directly undermine stability in the Middle East," Chen said, spotlighting the urgent need for a halt to hostilities.
Chen Xu urged the international community to prioritize a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, revitalize the two-state solution, and restore peace and stability across the region. He emphasized China's unwavering support for the just cause of the Palestinian people, underpinned by the Global Security Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative.
"China stands ready to work with all parties to promote an early, comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution of the Palestinian issue," Chen added, calling for a united global push to end the crisis.
For the young global citizens, business innovators, and changemakers tuning in, the path to peace in the Middle East demands cross-border cooperation and sustained engagement. As communities worldwide watch closely, fostering dialogue and supporting humanitarian efforts remain vital steps toward a lasting ceasefire.
