Industry leaders, scholars and executives from around the globe gathered on Monday as the 2025 Hefei International New Energy Vehicle Exhibition kicked off in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province. Bright show floors and packed keynote stages set the tone for a dive into the latest trends reshaping electric mobility.
A centerpiece of the opening ceremony was the release of the 2025 China urban NEV manufacturing vitality index report. The index highlighted strong momentum across sample cities, with Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing and Hefei leading in core technology breakthroughs, concentration of top EV players and integrated industry ecosystems.
To turn momentum into lasting growth, the report offered six key recommendations: tailor policies to local strengths, enhance consumer experience, expand charging infrastructure, align city and corporate strategies, engage in international standard-setting and boost capital-market support.
Behind the data is rapid market expansion. From January to August, pure electric vehicle sales in China rose 32.2 percent year on year, making up 62.3 percent of the NEV market in August. This surge reflects a global shift toward cleaner, smarter transport solutions.
Echoing this optimism, NIO founder William Li called 2025 a 'turning point for the industry,' noting that electric vehicles now deliver user benefits that outweigh charging concerns. He Zhiqi, executive vice president of BYD, added that the next decade will accelerate China's move to electric and intelligent vehicles, with BYD deepening its investment in Anhui as the province builds a world-class auto hub.
