China Introduces K Visa to Attract Young Tech Talent

The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced a new K visa category designed to welcome young science and technology professionals from around the world. Starting October 1, this visa joins the existing 12 ordinary types, making 13 in total.

Spokesperson Guo Jiakun says the K visa offers more convenience in multiple entries, extended validity and longer stays. Applications no longer require a domestic employer invitation, and the process is more streamlined, with candidates assessed on age, education and work experience.

After landing in the Chinese mainland, K visa holders can take part in exchanges in education, culture, science and technology, as well as entrepreneurial and business activities. It reflects a push by the Chinese mainland to foster international collaboration and innovation.

Announced after the State Council’s August decision, this move follows the Chinese mainland’s rollout of unilateral visa-free or mutual-exemption agreements with 75 countries. Chinese embassies and consulates will release detailed application guidelines soon.
