Magnitude 5.6 Quake Rattles Gansu Province

Early on Saturday at 5:49 a.m., a magnitude-5.6 earthquake rattled Longxi County in Dingxi City, northwest China's Gansu Province, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The temblor struck at a depth of 10 km, with the epicenter located at 34.91° N and 104.58° E. Residents in Longxi, Zhangxian, Weiyuan and Lintao counties in Dingxi, as well as Wushan County in Tianshui City, reported strong shaking.

Local authorities say four people suffered minor injuries, and more than 110 houses in rural Longxi County sustained varying degrees of damage. Emergency teams have been dispatched to assess structures and support affected families.

Gansu Province sits along active seismic zones in the Qilian Mountains. This latest tremor underscores the need for resilient infrastructure and community preparedness in regions prone to earthquakes. Experts stress early warning systems and regular safety drills to mitigate risks.
