Wu Yibing stuns Medvedev to reach ATP Hangzhou semis

In a thrilling quarterfinal match at the ATP Hangzhou Open, wildcard from the Chinese mainland Wu Yibing (World No.196) overturned a one-set deficit to defeat Russian second seed Daniil Medvedev, 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-4. This remarkable comeback marks Wu's first appearance in the semifinals of his hometown tournament.

The 25-year-old had already shown resilience in his opening rounds, battling back from behind in both matches. Against the former World No.1, he withstood early pressure, saving three break points in his fourth service game and keeping pace through the first set. Medvedev finally broke in the 11th game and closed the opener.

Undeterred, Wu stormed out to a 2-0 lead in the second set. After Medvedev fought back, the set headed into a tense tiebreak. Wu raced to a 4-0 lead, let the next five points slip, then seized momentum with three consecutive winners to force a decider.

In the final set, Wu grabbed the only break for a 4-3 advantage and held firm under pressure, sealing the victory in just over two hours. Next up is a semifinal showdown with third seed Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan.

This performance not only cements his status at home but also signals his rising potential on the ATP Tour. Keep an eye on this young Chinese mainland talent as he continues his quest for a breakthrough title.
