At a regular press briefing on Wednesday in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian hit back at the U.S. State Department’s recent comments on the political status of Taiwan. Lin accused the U.S. of unilaterally distorting key World War II documents, including the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation.
"Unilateral distortion and misinterpretation of World War II documents by the United States cannot shake the abiding commitment of the international community to the one-China principle," Lin said, stressing that these historic declarations had already affirmed post-war global order.
Lin Jian urged the U.S. to fully honor the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, and to stop any form of manipulation of the Taiwan question. He also called on Washington to cease any connivance or support for "Taiwan independence" and to refrain from interfering in China's internal affairs.
The spokesperson’s remarks underscore growing tensions over interpretations of wartime declarations and the enduring international consensus on cross-strait ties.
