Remembering Major Du Zhaoyu: Lebanon’s Smiling Peacekeeper

In July 2006, Chinese Major Du Zhaoyu tragically lost his life alongside three fellow UN peacekeepers during a mission in southern Lebanon. Despite the dangers around him, Du was known for his constant smile—a source of strength and unity for his team.

Colleague Maji Monzer describes Du’s unwavering optimism: “Even in the toughest times, his smile reminded us why we were here—to bring hope and safety.” Their shared mission exemplified the spirit of international cooperation under the United Nations flag.

Du’s story of courage and compassion is honored in the documentary "Blue Helmets, No Borders" on CGTN. His legacy lives on as a testament to the human side of peacekeeping, where small acts of kindness can make a lasting impact.
