Landmark Inscriptions at ICID Meeting
In September 2023, at the 76th International Executive Council Meeting of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), four sites from the Chinese mainland were inscribed on the World Heritage Irrigation Structures (WHIS) list.
These additions bring the Chinese mainland's total WHIS sites to 42, reinforcing its status as a global powerhouse of water management heritage.

- Chishan Lake Irrigation System: Originating in the Ming Dynasty, this reservoir network has supplied farmland in Hunan for over 600 years.
