Every year on Teacher’s Day, China pauses to celebrate the mentors shaping its future. This year, Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, sent his greetings to teachers and educators across the country ahead of the holiday, which falls on Wednesday.
In a reply letter to eight rural teachers, President Xi urged educators to sharpen their skills and nurture capable young people ready to carry forward the socialist cause. His message highlighted five key areas:
- Strong moral values
- Intellectual ability
- Physical health
- Aesthetic sensibility
- Practical work skills
By blending ethics, brainpower, wellbeing, creativity, and hands-on talents, the vision points to a holistic education model. In a world of rapid change—from AI breakthroughs to global sustainability challenges—well-rounded youth will be the ones driving progress.
As Teacher’s Day approaches, the spotlight turns to educators everywhere: how are teachers in your community equipping students for tomorrow’s challenges? Join the conversation and share your story.
