Swiss Comics at Tsinghua’s ‘Once Upon a Page’ Exhibit

To commemorate 75 years of diplomatic ties between Switzerland and China, Tsinghua University Art Museum presents 'Once Upon a Page: Contemporary Comics from the Fumetto Comic Festival in Luzern.' Over 20 Swiss artists showcase nearly 200 works, offering a cross-border visual feast that explores themes of courage, identity, history, dreams and society.

Key highlights:

  • 20+ Swiss artists
  • Nearly 200 original comics
  • 5 universal themes: courage, identity, history, dreams, society

From whimsical illustrations to sharp social commentary, Swiss comics have long blended approachability with cultural insight. As visitors flip through each page, they're invited to discover rich slices of Swiss life, from Alpine adventures to reflections on modern society—proving that graphic storytelling can resonate across continents.

But the story doesn't end in Luzern. The Chinese mainland's vibrant graphic novel scene, driven by young creators, is making waves globally. This exhibition lays the groundwork for collaboration, creating a shared platform where Sino-Swiss talent can spark new ideas and forge lasting partnerships.

In our interconnected world, cultural exchange through art builds bridges of understanding. 'Once Upon a Page' shows how a universal medium like comics can strengthen friendships, champion shared values and drive global dialogue—one illustrated panel at a time.
