China’s top legislature has launched its 17th standing committee session, where lawmakers are set to review a broad spectrum of bills, from atomic energy to environmental protection.
Presided over by Zhao Leji, chairman of the 14th National People’s Congress Standing Committee, the first plenary meeting brought together key delegates to debate over a dozen draft laws and reports.
Highlights on the agenda include draft laws on atomic energy, public health emergency response, national parks, and the comprehensive environmental code. Delegates also examined proposed revisions to the Arbitration Law, Prison Law, and Enterprise Bankruptcy Law, alongside amendments to the Cybersecurity Law and the Environmental Protection Tax Law.
International cooperation measures are in focus, with bills on the ratification of an extradition treaty and a judicial assistance treaty with the Republic of Serbia under review. In addition, the committee evaluated a deputy qualification report and discussed several personnel-related proposals.
As these discussions unfold, stakeholders across sectors will watch how these legislative updates aim to strengthen legal frameworks, promote public welfare, and enhance cross-border collaboration.
