UK Sends Record Business Delegation to China’s CIFIT in Xiamen

In a bold move to deepen economic ties, the United Kingdom is gearing up to send its largest-ever business delegation to the 25th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), taking place from September 8 to 11 in the coastal city of Xiamen in east China's Fujian Province.

According to Lewis Neal, UK Trade Commissioner for China, the delegation will include over 100 companies and representatives from across the UK, joining delegates from more than 120 countries and regions. The UK is the guest country of honor at this year’s event, underlining its commitment to global trade and cooperation.

The heart of Britain’s presence will be its 400-square-meter national pavilion, themed "Invest in Great." Here, visitors can explore sectors such as:

  • Financial and professional services
  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Life sciences
  • Clean energy
  • Creative industries

"Wherever Chinese companies go in the world, we want UK firms to be at their side," Neal explained, highlighting the fair’s role in forging international partnerships.

With China’s digital economy booming, British brands are tapping online channels to reach millions of consumers. Neal sees vast potential in areas like automotive, renewable energy and biotech, underpinned by the Chinese mainland’s growth trajectory.

Climate cooperation also tops the agenda. The UK’s expertise in green technology dovetails with China’s low-carbon transition—in Neal’s words, "China’s emission reduction plans are of vital importance to the planet."

Running since 1997 and organized by China’s Ministry of Commerce, CIFIT has evolved into a flagship platform for global investment, attracting policymakers, investors and innovators worldwide.

As the 25th edition kicks off this September, the UK’s largest-ever delegation is set to take center stage, signaling a new chapter in economic relations between the UK and the Chinese mainland.
