Beijing, Tuesday — In a solemn gathering, 340 participants from Hong Kong, Macao, the Taiwan region and overseas converged in the capital to mark the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Wang Huning, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, delivered a keynote speech highlighting the war’s status as China’s first full triumph against foreign invasion in modern history.
“This victory stands as a shared memory and honor for all Chinese people,” he said, paying tribute to the courageous struggle of compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and the Taiwan region, as well as overseas Chinese. He emphasized their role in forging an international anti-fascist united front.
Wang underlined the need to carry forward the great national spirit—centered on patriotism and the war of resistance—to fuel the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. He called for advancing Chinese modernization, integrating Hong Kong and Macao into national development, and improving institutions to facilitate economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait.
Reaffirming the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, Wang firmly opposed “Taiwan independence” separatist activities and external interference, and he underscored upholding the victorious outcome of the recovery of Taiwan in the war against Japanese aggression.
Looking ahead, he urged efforts to uphold a correct historical perspective on World War II, contribute to world peace and development, and advance the progress of human civilization.
