Xi’s V-Day Address: Honoring History, Embracing Peace and Global Unity

Beijing, Tian’anmen Square — On Wednesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed a grand commemorative meeting marking the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Drawing leaders, veterans and guests from at home and abroad, Xi paid tribute to those who fought for peace, urging unity and renewed commitment to international cooperation.

Standing under the historic gates of Tian’anmen, Xi began by saluting veterans, patriots and foreign friends who stood by China during its darkest hours. He recalled how, under the banner of the national united front established by the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people formed a “great wall with flesh and blood” to defend their nation, making a significant contribution to defeating fascism worldwide.

"History cautions us that humanity rises and falls together," Xi said, stressing the need for equal treatment among nations, coexistence in peace and mutual support. With global tensions rising today, he argued that the world again faces a choice between peace and war, dialogue and confrontation, win-win cooperation and a zero-sum game.

Xi reaffirmed China’s path of peaceful development and called for building “a community with a shared future for humanity.” He also highlighted the role of the People’s Liberation Army, praising its “heroic” legacy and encouraging it to build a world-class force to safeguard sovereignty and contribute to global peace.

Looking ahead, Xi outlined a vision for the Chinese mainland’s future under the leadership of the CPC, urging citizens to carry forward the great spirit of resistance, adopt Marxism-Leninism and other guiding philosophies, and work toward “great national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization.”

As the ceremony concluded, the message was clear: remembering sacrifice, honouring heroes and embracing peace remain vital in shaping a more secure, cooperative global community.
