China Rebukes EU’s ‘Autocratic Alliance’ Claim as Irresponsible

At a press conference on Thursday, China's Foreign Ministry denounced comments by an EU foreign policy chief who suggested that China, Russia, Iran and the DPRK are forging an "autocratic alliance" to challenge the rule-based world order. Spokesperson Guo Jiakun called the claim "very wrongful and irresponsible."

"These statements are filled with ideological bias, lack basic historical common sense, and blatantly stoke rivalry and confrontation," Guo said. He added that such remarks "disrespect the history of World War II and harm the EU’s own interests."

The rebuke followed remarks by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, who warned that "while Western leaders gather in diplomacy, an autocratic alliance is seeking a fast track to a new world order."

Guo pointed to recent commemorations hosted by China for the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The events, he said, aimed to "remember history, honor fallen heroes, cherish peace and build a better future."

More than 26 heads of state, over 20 senior representatives and 100 diplomatic envoys joined the ceremony, including delegates from 19 European nations across five continents. "This shows wide recognition of China’s historic contribution and a shared determination to safeguard world peace and stability," Guo noted.

In an era of volatile global dynamics, the spokesperson urged solidarity and cooperation. "Europe, where World War II was unleashed, should deeply understand the lessons of history and the importance of unity," he said.

Guo concluded by urging some EU leaders to "let go of prejudice and arrogance, adopt a correct historical perspective, promptly correct false statements, erase negative impacts and work towards sound China-EU relations rather than the opposite."
