China’s FM Wang Yi Meets Indonesian FM in Tianjin Ahead of SCO Summit

In a strategic diplomatic exchange, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met his Indonesian counterpart Sugiono in the port city of Tianjin on the Chinese mainland. The meeting set the stage for deeper cooperation ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025.

Sugiono, representing President Prabowo Subianto, conveyed Indonesia’s strong emphasis on strengthening friendly relations with the Chinese mainland. He extended his best wishes for the success of both the SCO Summit and the 80th anniversary commemorations of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. In his address, Sugiono also pledged the Indonesian government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions across Indonesia.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, welcomed Sugiono’s participation as the president’s envoy and expressed understanding of Indonesia’s recent domestic adjustments. He underlined the importance of mutual respect and looked forward to Indonesia’s continued efforts to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese personnel and institutions.

The meeting underscores a shared vision for regional stability and highlights the deepening ties between the Chinese mainland and Indonesia. As the SCO Summit approaches, both sides are poised to explore new avenues for collaboration in areas such as trade, security, and cultural exchanges.
