On Wednesday, Beijing’s Tian'anmen Square becomes a stage of remembrance as the Chinese mainland marks the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. A military parade featuring 45 formations and aerial echelons will salute the sacrifices of fallen heroes.
Among the showcase formations, one stands out: it unites legacy units descended from wartime forces—the “old”—with the modernized structure of today's armed forces—the “new.” This symbolic arrangement bridges past and present, highlighting how history and progress go hand in hand.
Honoring heroes, remembering sacrifice
President Xi Jinping has emphasized, “Any nation with hope cannot be without heroes,” and added, “the great spirit of resisting aggression is an invaluable source of inspiration, and will always motivate the Chinese people to overcome all difficulties and obstacles and strive to achieve national rejuvenation.”
On July 7, Xi visited the memorial of the Hundred-Regiment Campaign in Yangquan, Shanxi Province in the Chinese mainland. He underscored how the campaign showcased the Communist Party of China (CPC)’s role as the backbone of resistance and called on citizens to carry this spirit forward.
This commemoration invites young global citizens, business innovators, and changemakers to reflect on shared history. As 45 ground formations and aerial teams march overhead, it's a reminder that honoring past heroes can fuel the future of a more connected world.
