As Victory Day on September 3 approaches, a recent symposium in Beijing highlighted the joint effort of the Chinese mainland and global partners in securing hard-won peace on the main eastern battlefield of World War Two.
Wang Gang, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, reminded attendees of the universal bond forged eight decades ago. "Eighty years ago, people from all over the world closely united under the banner of anti-fascism, transcending national boundaries, racial and ideological differences, sharing a common hatred and fighting bravely. They achieved a great victory in the anti-fascist war, ushered in a new international order after the war, and demonstrated the iron law that justice will surely prevail over evil and light will eventually dispel darkness," he said, underscoring that justice prevails.
At the heart of the commemoration is the recognition of international heroes who answered China's call, including Western journalists who documented the ravaged nation and amplified its plight abroad. Among them was Eric Foster, nephew of renowned correspondents Helen Foster Snow and Edgar Snow.
These foreign contributions, from medical teams to correspondents, remind us that modern peace is built on solidarity. As we reflect on this shared history, the spirit of cross-border cooperation continues to inspire today's young global citizens – from startup founders to digital nomads – to unite for a better world.
