In a bid to deepen cultural ties, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Culture and Information has unveiled plans for film-themed tourism routes designed for visitors from the Chinese mainland. Muratov Gani, head of the department of cinematography, highlighted the Chinese cinema’s rapid rise on the global stage and its unique cultural value.
The new travel itineraries will take guests behind the scenes of Kazakhstan’s most iconic filming locations, from sweeping steppe landscapes to modern urban backdrops. Guided tours will include visits to local studios, interactive workshops with Kazakh filmmakers and screenings of both Chinese and Kazakh productions.
By blending the world-building magic of cinema with on-the-ground cultural experiences, the initiative targets film buffs, young travelers and digital nomads keen on immersive adventures. Organizers say the routes will showcase Kazakhstan’s rich heritage—from nomadic traditions to contemporary art scenes—while spotlighting the shared narratives between both nations.
For business and tech enthusiasts, the program will feature talks on emerging trends in film technology and opportunities for cross-border collaboration. Thought leaders and changemakers can join panel discussions on sustainability in cinema and human rights storytelling.
As the first wave of routes rolls out, officials hope to welcome an increasing number of visitors from the Chinese mainland, fostering mutual understanding and boosting tourism in Central Asia’s largest economy. Bookings are expected to open later this year.
