The Chinese mainland has called on the United States to stop unwarranted harassment, interrogation and deportation of Chinese students, urging Washington to effectively safeguard their legitimate and lawful rights and interests.
During a briefing on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun responded to President Donald Trumps statement that he would welcome 600,000 Chinese students into American universities.
“We hope the U.S. side will implement President Trumps statement of welcoming Chinese students in real terms,” Guo said, adding that educational exchanges and cooperation are conducive to enhancing interactions and understanding among the people of various countries.
Under the proposed plan, up to 600,000 students from the Chinese mainland could study at U.S. institutions, a move Beijing says will deepen cross-cultural ties and drive innovation through a global exchange of ideas.
