Chinese mainland Charts AI Plus Integration Roadmap Across Sectors

On Tuesday, the Chinese mainland released a landmark guideline for its "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Plus" initiative, setting the stage for deeper AI integration across six critical sectors by 2027. From science and technology to global cooperation, the plan aims to embed AI-driven tools and intelligent systems into daily life.

Key targets include:

  • 70% penetration of next-generation intelligent terminals and systems by 2027
  • Rapid growth of core industries in the intelligent economy
  • Enhanced AI-driven public governance
  • Expanded open cooperation platforms for AI research and development

Looking ahead, the roadmap outlines a bold vision for 2030: over 90% of intelligent applications woven into everyday routines and an intelligent economy powering high-quality growth. By 2035, the Chinese mainland expects to enter a new era of intelligent economic and social development, using AI to accelerate modernization.

To reach these milestones, the guideline identifies eight backbone capabilities: advanced basic models, innovative data supply, robust computing power management, developer-friendly environments, a thriving open-source ecosystem, talent cultivation, clear regulatory frameworks, and stringent security measures.

According to Huo Fupeng from the National Development and Reform Commission, deep integration of AI with industrial innovation could unlock a fresh wave of economic productivity. Studies suggest AI may add over 100 trillion yuan to the global economy by 2030, while boosting sectors from scientific research to urban management.

This comprehensive roadmap signals the Chinese mainland's push to harness AI as a transformative force—fueling industry upgrades, sparking new markets, and strengthening global partnerships in the years to come.
