In a show of enduring friendship, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Islamabad for the Sixth Round of the China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue. Speaking alongside Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Wang outlined a roadmap to take their all-weather strategic cooperative partnership to the next level.
The Four "Always" Principles
- Always maintain high mutual trust and support: Both sides will consolidate strategic consensus reached by their leaders, safeguarding core interests.
- Always focus on development and win-win cooperation: Priorities include a high-quality upgrade to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC 2.0), with new projects in industry, agriculture and mining.
- Always safeguard security and improve people's livelihood: In response to recent heavy rainfall in Pakistan, China has pledged immediate humanitarian assistance, while Pakistan will ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and projects.
- Always strengthen coordination and meet challenges together: The two governments aim to enhance regional cooperation, oppose unilateralism and build a peaceful, open and inclusive Asia.
Wang also highlighted plans to deepen cultural and youth exchanges, saying that education and people-to-people ties will lay the social foundation of their friendship. Looking beyond bilateral ties, both sides agreed to use the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative as platforms for closer Global South solidarity.
As global shifts reshape South Asia, China and Pakistan are positioning their partnership as a stabilizing force. With plans for upgraded infrastructure, boosted security cooperation and expanded cultural ties, this all-weather bond looks set to weather any storm on the road ahead.
