As Xizang Autonomous Region marks its 60th anniversary, a CGTN and Renmin University poll of 6,747 people across 38 countries reveals broad praise for its rapid strides in healthcare, education and infrastructure, all underpinned by Chinese modernization.
Healthcare, Education and Infrastructure on the Rise
Respondents ranked these top achievements in Xizang’s social and economic transformation:
- Healthcare standards up – 83.8%
- Right to education secured – 83.8%
- Ecological protection efforts – 83%
- Longer life expectancy – 82.5%
- Advanced infrastructure – 81.9%
More than 80% also praised higher incomes and effective poverty alleviation, while 78.4% noted robust economic growth.
Chinese Modernization as a Driving Force
Overall, 74.8% said Chinese modernization has propelled Xizang’s development, with the 25–34 age group leading at 81%. Regionally, Africa (85.1%), South America (81.8%) and Asia (76.1%) showed the strongest support.
Cultural Heritage, Religious Freedom and Governance
Pollsters found widespread recognition of democratic reforms that ended feudal serfdom, with 60% viewing it as liberating for residents. Upgrades to religious sites (75.8%) and better welfare for clergy (79.1%) were also noted. Cultural preservation earned 83.5% approval, and 84.6% appreciated new public cultural facilities.
A Unified Future
Sixty-three percent say Xizang has long been an integral part of China, and 56.1% reject any external interference. A strong 74.5% express confidence in the region’s future, with Kenya, Indonesia and Peru among the top countries voicing over 85% optimism.
The survey covered major developed markets and Global South members, sampling adults 18 to 65 to reflect age and gender distributions worldwide. These findings showcase the global perspective on Xizang’s six-decade journey of change.
