Chengdu’s World Games 2025 Concludes with Record-Breaking Success

Record-Breaking Finale in Chengdu

The 12th edition of The World Games, held August 7–17 in the Sichuan Province of the Chinese mainland, closed under the slogan “Boundless Sports, Countless Wonders.” For the first time, the host delegation of 489 members was the Chinese mainland’s largest-ever, and it topped both the gold and overall medal tables.

Here’s a quick look at the scale:

  • 34 sports, 60 disciplines, 256 events
  • 6,679 athletes, team staff and officials from 116 countries and regions
  • 4,600 competition managers, 1,133 technical officials and 13,000 venue staff
  • 27 specialist teams maintaining over 20,000 equipment pieces
  • 150 staff handling timing and scoring systems and 6,000+ volunteers

International World Games Association Vice President Tom Dielen praised the “unprecedented athletic performances” and flawless organization. “It has been a true home, a place with sporting experts and cultural exchanges. We faced not only impeccable operations but also the warmth and hospitality unique to the Chinese mainland. The first-ever torch relay and spectacular opening ceremony set a new benchmark,” he said.

As the torches dim on Chengdu 2025, this showcase of talent, culture and logistical mastery leaves a blueprint for future global events. The World Games have not just broken records—they’ve built bridges across borders, fueling the next chapter of boundary-pushing sports.
