Cutting-Edge Tech Takes Center Stage at World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing

The first edition of the World Humanoid Robot Games kicked off in Beijing on the Chinese mainland on Thursday, bringing together 280 teams from 16 countries and regions to push the limits of humanoid robotics. Over three days, competitors will face 26 event categories and a total of 538 challenges at the National Speed Skating Oval.

From athletic feats like running sprints, long jumps, and team football matches to practical skills tests in material handling, medication sorting, and space cleaning, the event mirrors human sports formats to deliver an 'extreme test' of intelligence and coordination. 'We aim to bridge the gap between lab prototypes and everyday applications—in factories, hospitals, or homes,' says Li Yechuan from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology.

Li Zhiqi, adviser to the Beijing municipal government, highlights that this competition marks a crucial step toward large-scale production. 'Seeing robots adapt to real-world scenarios is key to making humanoid technology truly practical,' he explains.

Positioned shortly after the 2025 World Robot Conference, which rallied global experts around the theme 'Making Robots Smarter, Making Embodied Agents More Intelligent,' the Games offer a dynamic showcase of where intelligent machines stand today—and where they’re headed tomorrow.
