Amid the backdrop of the tenth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministersâ Meeting in Anning, Yunnan Province, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed his Lao counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane. Wang, who also serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, reaffirmed Chinaâs commitment to implementing the key consensus set by the top leadership of both parties and countries. He highlighted plans to enhance strategic communication, boost direct investment, and safeguard the stability of industrial and supply chains. In particular, he said China would share the benefits of its super-sized market and work with Laos to resist economic coercion.
Signalling a new chapter in regional collaboration, China officially welcomed Laos as a dialogue partner of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, expressing hope that Laos would contribute to the SCOâs ongoing development.
For his part, Thongsavanh stressed the importance that Laos places on its partnership with China. He thanked China for its support in joining the SCO family and expressed his governmentâs readiness to build a Laos-China community with a shared future. He also underscored the need for close coordination to uphold international fairness and justice.
