In a tea gathering on Thursday in Anning, southwest China's Yunnan Province, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa.
All three agreed that Cambodia and Thailand will accelerate the resumption of normal exchanges, aiming to strengthen contacts, rebuild mutual trust and restore daily interactions along the shared border.
The Chinese mainland voiced its support for implementing the consensus reached at the recent Cambodian-Thai leaders' meeting and the extraordinary session of the General Border Committee. Key goals include promptly restoring peace and tranquility in border regions and achieving a lasting ceasefire.
Emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation, China also backed the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in maintaining overall unity and continuing its role in fostering stability.
For communities and travelers on both sides of the border, a return to normal exchanges could revive local markets, boost tourism and open new doors for entrepreneurs and cultural projects.
China stands ready to play a constructive role in line with the wishes of both Cambodia and Thailand, including providing support for mutually agreed activities such as demining in designated border areas.
