At the 10th MekongLancang Cooperation (MLC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Anning, Yunnan Province, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi underscored Beijing’s support for dialogue and consultation between Thailand and Cambodia. He reaffirmed China’s backing for ASEAN’s approach to resolving internal differences through trust-building talks.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, told Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa that China is ready to provide necessary assistance in line with both sides’ wishes. Maris praised China’s objective stance and its constructive role in easing regional tensions.
Beyond the ThailandCambodia dialogue, the two ministers explored ways to deepen China–Thailand ties. Reflecting on 50 years of diplomatic relations, Wang highlighted achievements in trade, infrastructure and cultural exchanges, and pledged to implement the consensus of their leaders to build a China–Thailand community with a shared future.
Plans on the China–Thailand railway, green development, the digital economy and artificial intelligence featured prominently. Wang called for high-level exchanges, expanded cooperation and policy support to facilitate Chinese enterprises in Thailand, aiming to inject fresh momentum into bilateral relations.
Describing the MLC as the most successful subregional cooperation mechanism, Wang said China and Thailand, as co-chairs, will work to ensure the meeting’s success and safeguard regional peace and stability. Maris expressed Thailand’s strong commitment to the MLC under China’s strategic guidance and welcomed closer cooperation over the next 50 years.
